Rising Sun (Landrace #13)
The difference between
///divinity and irony///
is getting harder to spot.
The sun rises in the East
where the Maitreya sits
in radiant warmth. The books
tell me about the Buddha who is
wrathful, wise, compassionate;
a complex deity for a sustainable society.
People always make new gods,
as life gets more complicated. Unless
there is a great force to suffocate them;
a wind strong enough to carry Portuguese ships.
I like to think Bartolomeu Dias is in hell,
but it seems more likely that it’s hell
from which he traveled. The gods
that give us comfort have been killed by the Pope.
